Alameda das Fontainhas, Porto
(Happisodes)
With House of Echoes, artist and architect Didier Fiúza Faustino reinterprets the typical northern espigueiro (granary), a familiar landmark of the Portuguese landscape and an example of an architecture without architect. Faustino enhances its naive shape — a box with six feet and a roof — and uses recycled materials to propose a sound capsule that works as a venue for music education, a public recording studio, and a stage for concerts and DJ sets.
Designed specifically for the Alameda das Fontaínhas, one of the city’s oldest and most distinctive neighbourhoods overlooking the Douro, House of Echoes is a piece of micro-architecture dedicated to sonic exploration in public space. Here, listening to, making, and recording music are activities open to the community, fostering creativity, knowledge exchange, and urban renewal.
The programme is brought to life through collaborations with faculties of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto and through events under the artistic direction of Lovers & Lollypops.

RIF: RÁDIO INTERMITENTE DAS FONTAINHAS
Lovers & Lollypops
30.10.2025 – 18.12.2025
Tuesdays and Thursdays
RIF: Rádio Intermitente das Fontaínhas (Intermittent Radio of Fontaínhas) runs from October to December at House of Echoes, on the avenue of the same name — an iconic location in the Bonfim neighbourhood, located above Horta da Bananeira, a temporary autonomous zone that emerged during the pandemic and brought to the city a new way of looking at the “non-places” that emerge from it.
Specifically, RIF invites independent structures and artists from Porto's cultural fabric — with varying degrees of proximity to the proposed territory — to use online radio to experimentally and necessarily incompletely map, over several sessions, a certain artistic movement that has been developing around this neighbourhood over the last decade.
The programme will include DJ sets and music selections, interviews and conversations, spoken word and fictional narrative creations, sound documentaries, archives and collages of found footage, radio performance, radio art and other practices that question and expand the language of radio.
SOUND POEMS AND WHISPERS
IPP (ESE + ESMAD + ESMAE)
Sound Poems and Whispers are a set of actions that aim to inhabit the House of Echoes and permeate the surrounding space with musical and sonic proposals stemming from the artistic and educational practices developed at the School of Education of P. Porto, particularly within the bachelor’s and master’s programs in Music.
These actions will include soundwalks, soundscape recordings, small concerts, sound performances with non-conventional objects, and improvisation sessions. They will be nourished by the collection of local stories and memories, which will later be returned to the space and its people through original musical and sonic interpretations.

Promoted by the Porto Design Biennale, Happisodes are co-design projects between designers, communities, and municipalities that bring to life, in Porto and Matosinhos, the joy of collectively recognising that the present can be reimagined. They are living, inhabited processes where design gives shape to the common.
Book publishing is a fundamental part of the Porto Design Bienniale, conveying, through the editing and materiality of the books and catalogues, the concept and curation of the projects.
The selected projects are independent and autonomous projects regarding curation, financing and production that engage with the theme of this edition.
